
The inaugural Meeting for the Sustainability of Cruise Activity was held at the Lisbon Cruise Terminal on October 29, 2024, gathering stakeholders from various sectors, including local government, tourism boards, and environmental organizations.
A memorandum of understanding was signed at the event to establish an advisory committee focused on addressing the sustainability impacts of cruise activities in Lisbon.
Presentations included findings from air quality monitoring initiatives and an economic impact study, highlighting that while some pollution levels exceeded WHO guidelines, overall air quality in Lisbon complied with European legal standards.
In 2023, the cruise industry contributed an estimated €1.934bn to Lisbon’s economy, generating €794m in GDP value-added, €317m in tax revenue, and creating 20,383 jobs.
