Portaventura park in Salou reports 14 people were injured, two seriously, when a strong gust of wind caused a nearby tree to fall on the Tomahawk roller coaster, with some branches reportedly hitting the attraction’s riders.

A written statement said: This Sunday morning, due to a strong wind episode, an accidental incident occurred involving the fall of a tree near the Tomahawk attraction. Some branches struck customers who were on the ride. After activating our emergency protocols, the affected individuals were immediately attended to by our first aid teams, in collaboration with the emergency medical services (SEM).

Subsequently, some of them were transported to the hospital for medical care. At PortAventura World, we are closely monitoring their condition, ready to provide the necessary assistance and full support to the families during this time. This incident is completely unrelated to the operation and maintenance of our attractions, which adhere to the highest safety standards and undergo rigorous daily inspections. We are fully cooperating with the authorities and appreciate the swift action of our team and the emergency services for their effectiveness and professionalism.

Two of the injured are children, while the two critically injured are adults, said the deputy territorial head of the SEM in Tarragona, Juan Antonio Escorcia, on Catalunya Ràdio.
