Intrnational Maritime Organisation delays discussions on the IMO Net-Zero Framework for 12 month

The International Maritime Organisation’s Marine Environment Protection Committee has adjourned its session and delayed discussions on the IMO Net-Zero Framework for 12 months. 

The framework, approved in April 2025, includes a global fuel standard and a greenhouse gas emissions pricing mechanism under MARPOL Annex VI. The Intersessional Working Group meets from 20 to 24 October 2025 to develop implementation guidelines. Member states will work towards consensus in the interim. 

The framework aligns with the IMO’s 2023 Strategy for reducing ship emissions.

The committee adjourned from 14 to 17 October 2025. Net-Zero Framework discussions was delayed for 12 months. The framework includes global fuel standard and emissions pricing. The Intersessional Working Group meets 20 to 24 October 2025.
