Visitor numbers to Ireland down 4.6pc in the twelve months to November – CSO

Visitor numbers to Ireland form all markets are down 4.6pc in the twelve months to November according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office. Rolling annual was 6,271,100 compared with 6,645,900 in the twelve months to November 2024.

Foreign visitors to Ireland reached 460,300 in November 2025, marking a 13pc increase compared with November 2024. Overnight stays totalled 2.8m nights during the month, reflecting a 12pc rise from the previous year.  For the first time all of the main markets showed a rise in visitor numbers, the only exception being the combined market from Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg.

Ireland outbound trips was 957,400, up 7.6pc on 2024 and 56.4pc on pre-pandemic, when the CSO used a different methodology and may have mis-stated the inbound/outbound ratio. Rolling annual was 14,184,400, up 10.2pc on the twelve months to November 2024.

The ratio of inbound to outbound in November 2025 was 33/67, compared with the predominantly inbound ratios that are found in pre-pandemic statistics, such as 58/41 in November 2017.

Visitor spending, excluding fares, amounted to €347m in November 2025, up 10pc on the corresponding period in 2024. The average length of stay stood at 6.1 nights per visitor.

Britain accounted for 41pc of arrivals, followed by Continental Europe at 34pc and North America at 20pc.

Edward Duffy, Statistician in the Tourism and Travel Division, shared “The results show that 460,300 foreign visitors departed Ireland on overseas routes in November 2025, an increase of 13pc compared with November 2024 and up 3pc when compared with November 2023.”

CS statistician Edward Duffy shared “In November 2025, the greatest number of visitors came from Britain (41pc), followed by Continental Europe (34pc), North America (20pc) and the Rest of the World (5pc). The leading purposes of travel to Ireland were for holidays and visits to friends and relatives, each accounting for 34pc.” 

November rises

  • Visitors from Britain are up 6.7pc on last year and down 22pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 2,373,300, up 6.7pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from North America were up 15.2pc on last year and down 31.3pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 1,475,700, up 9.2pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from Europe were up 12.7pc on last year and down 34.1pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 2,068,100, down 13.1pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from USA were up 22.6pc on last year and down 27.5pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 1,303,300, up 4.6pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from Germany were up 12.8pc on last year and down 32.1pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 431,000, down 7pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from France were up 8.5pc on last year and down 27.8pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 347.200, down 13.5pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from Spain and Portugal were up 15.6pc on last year and down 6.1pc on pre-pandemic,  rolling annual was 287,500 down 9.5pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from Canada were up 37.7pc on last year and down 50.6pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 215,200, up 10.2pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from Italy were up 28.3pc on last year and down 10.1pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 207,300, down 16.7pc on the 12 months to October 2024.
  • Visitors from Scandinavia were up 4.4pc on last year,, rolling annual was
    126.500, down 22.5pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
  • Visitors from Australia and New Zealand were up 8.1pc on last year and down 44.6pc on pre-pandemic, rolling annual was 122.400, down 5pc on the 12 months to November 2024.

November falls

• • Visitors from Benelux were down 22.5pc on last year  rolling annual was 258.600, down 16.6pc on the 12 months to November 2024.
