Irish Continental Group reported a 40.4pc rise in pre-tax profits to €20.5 million for the six-month period ending June 2025.
Revenue increased by 8.5pc to €309.9 million, showing growth despite a decrease in car and passenger numbers. The first half of the year saw a drop in car carryings to 264,900, primarily due to reduced services on the Dover-Calais route.
The James Joyce ferry commenced service in May and is now the largest and fastest passenger ferry on the Irish Sea. Irish Ferries has transitioned to using hydrotreated vegetable oil on some ferries, aiming to cut emissions by up to 80pc.
John B. McGuckian shared, “Despite a difficult start, the first half of 2025 has been a successful period for the group. The closure of Holyhead Port in December 2024 negatively impacted volumes in the Ferries Division at the beginning of 2025, but following its partial reopening in January, the company has seen a return to more normalised volumes.“
