Irish Ferries has collaborated with Circle K to switch to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel for the Dublin Swift service.

This vessel is the first in the fleet to adopt renewable biofuel, aiming to reduce carbon emissions significantly.

The Dublin Swift operates between Dublin and Holyhead in just 135 minutes, making it the quickest crossing on the Irish Sea.

HVO is derived from waste products and not intended for human consumption, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional fuels.

Irish Ferries plans to use HVO across all four engines, potentially achieving up to 90% carbon emission reduction compared to standard diesel.

Andrew Sheen, Managing Director at Irish Ferries shared: “We are proud to partner with Circle K as a supplier in this endeavour and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this transitionheen.”
