ITA Airways welcomes large pets to the cabin

ITA Airways will permit large pets weighing up to 30 kilogrammes to travel in the cabin on designated Large Pet Friendly domestic scheduled flights. The initiative follows recent ENAC regulatory updates and builds upon a successful demonstration flight in September that carried two large dogs from Milan Linate to Rome Fiumicino without carriers.

Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways shared “Following the success of the demonstration flight in September, we worked to continue that experience by transforming it into a service available on our Large Pet Friendly domestic flights. It’s a decision that comes from listening to our passengers and realising that pets are part of the family: we want every journey to start and end together, without separation.”

Sales for the new service will open during the next IATA summer season, enabling bookings for spring and summer travel. The move extends a prior policy change from June 2024 that raised the cabin pet weight limit on all domestic flights by 25pc to 10 kilogrammes plus the carrier.

ITA Airways, 59pc owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and 41pc by Deutsche Lufthansa AG, continues to prioritise inclusive customer experiences, digitised services, and sustainable operations while strengthening Italy’s domestic and international connectivity.
