KLM resumes flights to Middle East destinations

KLM has provided a series of updates regarding its flight operations in the Middle East, indicating flights have resumed but not returned to normal.

The airline initially suspended flights to several destinations due to airspace restrictions over Iran, Iraq, Israel, and certain Gulf countries.

This decision affected routes to Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam, and Tel Aviv, with passengers offered rebookings, vouchers, or refunds. The updates reflect KLM’s commitment to monitoring the situation closely and adjusting schedules based on security assessments.

In late January, KLM began resuming operations to some destinations. Flights to Dammam and Riyadh returned to regular schedules starting 27 January, while options for Dubai and Tel Aviv were explored. By 28 January, Dubai flights were expected to restart on 30 January, but Tel Aviv remained suspended. Subsequent updates in early February extended adjusted schedules for Tel Aviv and Dubai, with gradual resumptions planned. Shared in a written statement “At all times, KLM prioritises the safety of passengers and crew in the execution of its operations. Selecting safe and optimal routes is a standard part of our daily practice.”

The airline detailed specific resumption dates, such as Tel Aviv flights on 2 and 3 February with adjustments, and Dubai from 1 to 6 February. Later updates extended these to mid-February, confirming resumed services to Riyadh and Dammam. KLM highlighted its proactive approach to rebooking affected passengers and allowing refunds for those opting not to travel.

Included in the statement is a sample passenger letter explaining cancellations and options for rebooking or refunds via the KLM app or website. The letter acknowledges the inconvenience and reaffirms safety as the top priority.

KLM Shared in a written statement “We understand that this is inconvenient and may cause uncertainty. We will, of course, do everything we can to fly you to your destination as quickly as possible. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will determine our flight schedules accordingly.”
