The National Museum of Ireland announced its 2025 programme, featuring key exhibitions in Dublin and Mayo, including “Words on the Wave,” set to open in May at Kildare Street, showcasing 17 ancient manuscripts from Stiftsbibliothek, St. Gallen.
The exhibition explores Early Medieval Ireland’s impact on Europe and will include over 150 artifacts, such as the Faddan More Psalter, marking the return of these manuscripts to Ireland after more than 1,000 years.
In September, the “Changing Ireland” galleries will open at Collins Barracks, representing the largest expansion of public galleries in two decades, featuring important items including Rory Gallagher’s 1961 Fender Stratocaster.
A new Dead Zoo Lab will debut in Summer 2025 at Collins Barracks, allowing visitors to engage with the museum’s Natural History specimens while raising awareness about biodiversity loss and climate change, complemented by various community initiatives and events.
Director of the National Museum, Lynn Scarff, shared: “Our ambition for 2025, and always, is to spark conversation. Museums are dynamic, inviting and evolving spaces where cultural heritage is not only preserved, but actively explored and reimagined; places of both reflection and inspiration, where ideas are welcomed, and new perspectives can emerge. Our National Museum is for everyone. We have a lot of exciting developments ahead in 2025 and we are delighted to be sharing some of the highlights today.”
