Later Easter means Ireland visits to Portugal down 9.7pc in March

Ireland recorded 30,575 visits to Portugal in March, down 9.7pc from 33,866 in 2024 but 86.7pc ahead of pre-pandemic.

The tourist accommodation sector in Portugual saw 5.7m guests and 13.4m overnight stays in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting mixed changes from the previous quarter.

External markets comprised 67.9pc of total overnight stays, the lowest since Q3 2022, while overnight stays by residents increased by 3.6pc.

RA Madeira and Algarve were the regions most reliant on external markets for overnight stays, while Centro and Alentejo had lower contributions from non-residents.

Total revenue for the tourist accommodation sector reached EUR 956.0m, with accommodation revenue increasing by 4.3pc, while results were influenced by the calendar structure and the Easter holiday timing.
