Leeds Bradford Airport has unveiled plans for a £100 million regeneration project to upgrade its terminal facilities by 2026. The project includes a significant refurbishment of the current terminal building and a three-storey, 9,500 sqm extension.
This regeneration program is a return to a project originally announced in 2018 but was replaced in 2020 with plans for a brand new terminal. However, the new terminal plans were abandoned in 2022 due to delays and government intervention.
The upgrade program will begin this autumn and will bring several benefits for passengers, including additional aircraft stands, more seating, faster security procedures, new shops and eateries, and an expanded baggage reclaim area and immigration hall. It will also improve accessibility for passengers with restricted mobility.
The investment will also contribute to the airport’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions by introducing new heating, lighting, and machinery, such as updated baggage belts.
Earlier this year, Leeds Bradford Airport announced refurbishment works for its lounges, including the relocation of the 1432 Runway Club and expansion of the Yorkshire Lounge.
Vincent Hodder, the CEO of Leeds Bradford Airport, underscores the significance of this investment: “This announcement marks the beginning of a new era for Leeds Bradford Airport. This investment will give us the infrastructure needed to deliver an outstanding customer experience, support the growth of our airline partners, enhance connectivity for business, investment and trade and provide the airport that Leeds, Bradford and Yorkshire have been waiting for.”
