Lillian Barton-Sartorius, ninth-generation of the Bordeaux wine dynasty, will be hosting an exclusive evening at The K Club in November. This event is a return to her family’s legacy, where she will be joined by Head Sommelier Lisa O’Doherty.
The evening will include a Champagne reception in the Garden Room, followed by a five-course gala dinner prepared by chefs from The Barton restaurant. Each dish will be paired with Château Léoville Barton wines, and Lillian will bring a wine from her own cellar to pair with a chosen course.
The vineyards of Leoville Barton are situated in the gravelly soils typical of St Julien, with clay beds deeper down. With 72pc Cabernet Sauvignon, 20pc Merlot, and 8pc Cabernet Franc, the estate embraces the classic Left Bank blend, contributing to the distinctive character of their wines. The commune of St Julien is not known for no first-growths, but it is well served by seconds and fourths (Margaux rules the thirds).
The Straffan and St Julien properties were jointly owned by the Barton family from 1831 until the death of Bertram Barton in a hunting accident in 1927, when the properties were passed to separate sons. Derrick Barton sold Straffan House in 1949 and after a succession of owners it became the K Club in 1993.
The event will take place on Friday, 10th November, at The Barton Restaurant in The K Club. Tickets are priced at €295 per person, and there is also a B&B + Tickets package available for €395 per person sharing. Additionally, the first 10 people to purchase room packages will enjoy a complimentary masterclass with Lillian in The K Club’s wine cellar before the dinner.
