MCR plans to transform London’s BT Tower into a hotel, collaborating with Heatherwick Studio for the redesign.
The BT Tower, a 189-meter iconic structure in Fitzrovia, was once the tallest in London when it opened in 1965.
The Grade II listed building, known for its former revolving restaurant, ceased public access in the early 1980s after an explosion.
BT Group’s relocation will take time, delaying the hotel’s opening, while MCR aims to preserve the tower’s history and make it accessible to the public, similar to their work with TWA Hotel in New York.
Tyler Morse, CEO and owner of MCR, said: “We are proud to become owners and custodians of the iconic BT Tower. We will take our time to carefully develop proposals that respect the London landmark’s rich history and open the building for everyone to enjoy. We see many parallels between the TWA Hotel and the BT Tower. Both are world-renowned, groundbreaking pieces of architecture. It’s been a privilege to adapt the TWA Flight Center into new use for future generations, as it will be the BT Tower.”
