Lufthansa Group and Air India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the framework for a future joint business agreement. The arrangement aims to expand flights and marketing between Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, and India with a second phase planned to include remaining EU countries and the Indian subcontinent. The MoU follows the new European Union-India free trade pact and envisions closer schedule coordination, integrated frequent flyer programmes, and expanded codeshares.
The partnership builds on the longstanding Star Alliance relationship between the two carriers. It seeks to enhance connectivity for passengers travelling between Europe and India.
Lufthansa Group shared in a written statement the MoU establishes the framework for a future joint business agreement between airlines in both groups to expand flights and marketing.
