Lufthansa’s subsidiary, City Airlines, is set to launch flights in the summer of 2024, with a focus on expanding Lufthansa’s short-haul network in Germany.

The airline recently obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Authority in June 2023.

City Airlines will utilise A319 aircraft to operate flights from Munich and Frankfurt airports, offering feeder flights for Lufthansa.

The expansion of City Airlines is seen as crucial for Lufthansa Group’s market position and their planned growth in the long-haul segment in Germany.

Lufthansa plans to begin recruiting pilots and cabin crew next month, and they are considering English-speaking pilots for cockpit roles as well. The aim of City Airlines is to create opportunities and secure sustainable jobs, ultimately strengthening the hubs in Munich and Frankfurt for years to come.
