MEA has decided to relocate 10 of its aircraft to Cyprus for safekeeping, following the earlier relocation of 5 planes to Turkey. This move is in response to insurance companies no longer covering damages in the current circumstances.
Four fo the aircraft are leased from BOC Aviation.
Starting Sunday, MEA will scale back its flight schedule and operate with only 7 aircraft, which represents 62.5pc of its fleet. While transportation from Beirut will still be provided, it will be at a slower pace.
It is expected that other airlines will also gradually reduce their flights to Beirut in response to the tense situation in Lebanon and the surrounding region.
