The Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports has opened the 63rd MedCruise General Assembly with Bulgaria serving as the host country for the first time. The event brought together 110 port members and representatives from 13 cruise lines to the port of Burgas.
The agenda included discussions on developing destinations, port investment and development, environmental initiatives, port-city relations and community engagement, and geopolitical risks.
Prior to the official opening, a minute of silence was observed to pay tribute to the victims of natural disasters, the refugee crisis, conflicts in Ukraine, and recent events in Israel and Palestine. The President of MedCruise Figen Ayan expressed heartfelt prayers and emphasized the significance of being present in Burgas for the assembly: “Regardless of their faith, origin, and beliefs, MedCruise extends its thoughts to all citizens. We’ve made a tremendous effort to convene here at the 63rd MedCruise General Assembly, and being here in beautiful Burgas imbues our presence with even greater significance.”
Georgi Sabev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company, expressed appreciation on behalf of Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport and Communication. He emphasised the strategic importance of reestablishing cruise ship presence in the Black Sea region.
