PortMiami director Hydi Webb has announced plans for 22 different cruise brands and five newbuilds operating at the port this season, predicting an increase to approximately 8.4 to 8.5m cruise guests.
MSC’s new terminal, opening in April 2025, will be one of the largest globally, allowing three ships from two different lines to dock simultaneously, with additional berths planned by the end of 2028.
Royal Caribbean will replace Terminal G by fall 2027 to accommodate the new Icon-class vessels, while Norwegian Cruise Line commits to expanding passenger capacity and building a 2,000-space parking garage by the end of 2028.
The company committed to increasing its guaranteed passenger movements at PortMiami from approximately 50m to 75m passengers during the initial 30-year term of this agreement, an increase of 25m passengers over its existing commitment.
PortMiami has introduced shore power at five berths and Ms Webb highlighted the port’s sustainability efforts in collaboration with major cruise lines, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Director Hydi Webb shared “It will be able to welcome three ships at the same time from two different lines. It’s more like an airport-style terminal. The traditional model is one ship, one terminal. This is three ships, one large terminal. The first two berths will open and we, the county and port, will be building out the third berth for that facility by no later than the end of 2028.”
“Terminal G will also be knocked down. We are rebuilding a new terminal to be able to accommodate an Icon-class vessel. It will be done by fall of 2027.”
“People’s vacation patterns have also changed with remote work. The typically seven-day cruise left on a weekend, but why not Monday?”
