

Minister Heather Humphreys will open upgrades today to the ‘Croagh Patrick Pilgrim Path’ in Co. Mayo, aimed at providing sustainable access to the mountain and addressing erosion issues.
The Minister will also officially open the SOLAS Visitor Centre in Aughleam and announce funding to revitalise towns and villages in rural Ireland during the event.
The 4km pilgrim path from the base to the summit of Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo weas repaired during a three-year hand-building project.
Thousands of tonnes of rock and soil were removed to make the mountain safe and accessible, protecting both the mountain and maintaining safety.
A team of five men locally worked on the path, removing thousands of tonnes of stone and soil to create a two-meter wide path leading to the top.
The project was supported by the Croagh Patrick Stakeholders Group, with funding of around €600,000 from the Department of Rural and Community Development and Mayo County Council to support tourism and community development in the region.
