MSC Cruises has received the Green Marine Europe Certification, making it the first major cruise line to achieve this recognition.
The company achieved the highest score among eight performance indicators that measure environmental excellence and leadership.
The indicators covered a range of factors including aquatic invasive species, air and noise pollution, waste management, and responsible ship recycling.
Captain Minas Myrtidis, MSC Cruises’ VP of environmental operations and compliance, accepted the award at a ceremony in Bilbao, Spain.
Both MSC Cruises and its sister company, Explora Journeys, have committed to annual environmental performance measurement and external verification by Green Marine Europe.
