Roads were closed, including the N20 between Cork and Limerick, and cars were abandoned on roads during Sunday’s snowfall.
Traffic came to a standstill on the M8 Southbound Dublin to Cork Road near Cashel. The N20 Limerick to Cork closed for a period between O’Rourke’s Cross and Charleville due to an accident.
All access roads to Miltown Malbay in Clare were closed for a period. The snowfall impacted most heavily on Munster.
Cork airport was closed for period to clear the runway. FR7722 Gatwick to Cork was cancelled, KL1127 from Amsterdam, EI883 from Malaga, FR7027 from Gan Canaria & FR4156 from Alicante, FR3738 from Birmingham diverted to Dublin, FR5778 from Faro diverted to Knock.
Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester airports in England closed, causing some anxiety for soccer fans travelling for the premiership match at Anfield between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Manchester arrivals diverted to Dublin included Hainan Airlines from Beijing, Tui from Barbados and Aer Lingus from New York. Norse from Barbados was diverted to Shannon.
