
The first trans-Atlantic crossing of Norwegian Aqua will now terminate in New York City instead of Boston.
The arrival date has been postponed to April 7, 2025, due to severe weather conditions in the North Atlantic affecting the ship’s original course.
Norwegian Cruise Line stated that ensuring the safety of guests and crew is the top priority, leading to a course adjustment for a safer and more comfortable journey.
Guests who booked airfare through Norwegian Cruise Line will be rebooked on new flights departing on April 7, with additional arrangements for transfers.
The company will reimburse up to $300 per person for any airline change fees not covered by travel insurance, and guests have the option to cancel for a full refund.
With 180 agents from Ireland mongst its 2,000 passengers, Aqua successfully completed the maiden voyage of its new ship, Norwegian Aqua, which took place from Lisbon, Portugal, to Southampton, England last week.
The ship was delivered by the Fincantieri shipyard earlier this month and features innovative offerings aimed at enhancing the guest experience, according to president David J. Herrera.
Norwegian Aqua is scheduled to embark on a trans-Atlantic voyage to the United States, with an official christening ceremony planned for April 13, 2025, in Miami, where actor Eric Stonestreet will act as the ship’s godfather.
Following the naming ceremony, the Norwegian Aqua will homeport in Miami, Port Canaveral, and New York City, providing itineraries to the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Bermuda until March 2027.
The ship is the second in the Prima Plus Class, with the next vessel, Norwegian Luna, expected to enter service in 2026 for Norwegian Cruise Line.
