The Parador de Santillana Altamira has reopened following a comprehensive renovation. The project in Cantabria cost €8 euros.
The state-owned luxury hotel network Paradores de Turismo completed the transformation, allowing the property to start welcoming guests again on June 11, 2026.
Thanks to the sweeping modernization, the property has officially been upgraded from a 3-star to a 4-star rating. The project completely overhauled the guest rooms and common areas, optimizing spatial flow, lighting, and full accessibility compliance.
Significant infrastructure upgrades were integrated to improve energy efficiency and align with modern green tourism standards. The physical structure maintains its iconic traditional Cantabrian mountain manor architecture, blending seamlessly into the pedestrian historic quarter.
Santillana del Mar is unique for hosting two Paradores practically next door to each other. Its sister property, the 17th-century Parador de Santillana Gil Blas, also recently completed its own €900,000 architectural and decor refresh, reopening on April 30. With both projects finished, the town’s premium heritage lodging capacity is fully operational ahead of the peak summer season
Minister Jordi Hereu attended the official reopening of the historic hotel. The upgrade modernises facilities while preserving cultural heritage.
