Leitrim’s PJ Rigney distillery increases profits despite US tariffs

The makers of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin have increased profits to €2.87m last year despite a 15pc tariff on exports to the US. PJ Rigney Distillery & International Brands Ltd has reported revenues that rose by 4pc from €17.27m to €17.99m in the 12 months to the end of September. Pre-tax profits have edged up from €2.81m in the previous fiscal year.

The directors have noted strong performance amid economic uncertainty, tariffs in the US, inflationary pressures and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Brands have outperformed the general drinks market due to investments in innovation and brand communications. Margins have faced pressure from pricing, the weakening dollar and US tariffs but tight cost controls have offset these factors.

Numbers employed have risen from 85 to 88 while staff costs have reduced from €2.72m to €2.69m. The company has maintained strong liquidity with no debt obligations and has expected to generate profits and positive cash flows in 2026.
