Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee has approved the development of four new hotels in response to increasing visitor demand.
Three of the hotels are planned to be located in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast.
Permission was granted to convert buildings on Waring Street into a 120-bedroom hotel with extensions, including a rooftop bar/restaurant and terrace.
Existing buildings on Donegall Street will be altered and extended to create a 20-bed hotel with a bar/restaurant and outdoor seating area.
The former NI Housing Executive Offices on Hill Street will be transformed into a boutique hotel with 20 bedrooms, a ground-floor restaurant, and a bar.
The development includes the provision of a total of 135 hotel beds and 93 aparthotel beds, along with additional facilities like a restaurant, café, bar, gym, and parking.
These new hotel developments are seen as positive contributions to Belfast’s economic growth, according to Councillor Matt Garrett, the Chair of Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee. The committee bases its decisions on thorough information, including reports on housing land availability and employment land monitoring. The reports show that there is still considerable land available for residential and employment development in Belfast, allowing room for further growth and progress in achieving the city’s objectives outlined in the Belfast Agenda.
