Premier Inn says Christmas sales are up 37pc in Germany but flat elsewhere

Whitbread, owner of the Premier Inn chain, has reported a modest 2pc increase in accommodation sales for the six-week period ending January 9.

In Germany, total accommodation sales surged by 37pc, with revenue per available room increasing by 28pc.

Whitbread also announced a 2pc drop in total sales for the third quarter ending November 28, along with a 3pc decrease in total RevPAR for Premier Inn compared to the previous year. 

Whitbread launched Premier Inn in Ireland in 2018 when it acquired a development site in Dublin city centre and now operates 14 Premier Inn hotels in Ireland, five in Dublin, three in Belfast and one each in Bangor, Carrickfergus, Coleraine, Derry and Lisburn and employs more than 200 people across the country.

Whitbread recently announced a new target of 5,000 hotel bedrooms in Ireland. The group plans a new Premier Inn 81-room hotel for Belfast International Airport and a 162-room hotel in Sandyford Business Park.
