‘Protesters will cause cruise lines to switch itineraries’ – CLIA

The European director of the Cruise Lines International Association has warned that cruise lines may have to skip top European destinations

Protests against overtourism and the cruise industry have escalated in cities like Barcelona, Norway, and the Canary Islands while the Greek Prime Minister to impose restrictions on ship visits to islands like Santorini and Mykonos.

CLIA says cruise passengers make up only 4pc of vsiitors and says cruise lines may revise cruise ship itineraries if guest safety cannot be assured. 

Marie-Caroline Laurent, European director of CLIA said “there will be some consideration of adapting the itineraries if we feel that all passengers will not be well-treated.”
