Qantas will not be able to reactivate its remaining A380-800 fleet by the end of 2024 due to backlogs at external MRO providers and supply chain constraints.
Out of the ten A380-800s that were planned for reactivation, eight are back in service, while two are still undergoing maintenance in Abu Dhabi with no fixed return date.
Another A380-800 will be taken out of service for cabin refurbishment, leaving Qantas with seven A380s for a period of time.
Supplier delays and supply chain issues affecting maintenance workforce and hangar availability are impacting Qantas and other airlines globally.
The A380 shortfall will cause changes to Qantas’ published schedules, including delays in swapping out B787-9 flights for A380-800 flights on certain routes and adjustments in the frequency of B787-9-operated routes.
Qantas plans to have seven A380s flying by early October. The Sydney-Singapore-London route is not affected by the scheduling changes.
