Ross Lake Hotel, destroyed by fire on Saturday night in an incident being investigated by an Garda Síochána, was named for nearby Ross Lake.
It was described as a It “well kept and naturally romantic place” in the 1846 parliamentary Guide to Ireland, when it was residence of the Martin family. The house, built in 1860, had noted interior features including joinery and chimney pieces.
The house served as a 13-bedroom boutique four star hotel from 1969 until the pandemic, owned and run since the 1980s by Elaine and Henry Reid. The Reids sold the hotel in 2022. It was privately owned by an American, Allen Stringer and has been leased to Hop It Ltd, who in turn have a contract with the Government.
