Riviera cruises CEO Phil Hullah has told the crjuise line’s 40th birthday briefing in Paris that he anticipates Riviera’s numbers will grow from 100k a year to 200k by 2030.

From Ireland, the potential for growth could be proportionally greater as Rivera only entered the Irish market nine months ago and are handling 2,000 passengers off the island. Riveira is basing a new ship on theDouro this year.

In response to a question from Travel Extra, Mr Hullah said: the growth in passenger numbers is for the whole business. We are currently 50pc river cruise and 50pc tours. I see a very significant growth opportunity passenger number wise for the tour side of our business, going forward

When it comes back to rivercruise it is more competitive in European rivers than it’s been ever before but there still very significant head room for growth there. Riviera is a is a big player in England’s crusse market but overall we’re still a relatively small player in the rivercruise space. All of the rivers have got opportunity for growth and it tends to change a bit in terms of where the fashions and the focus is.

We are definitely seeing a lot of growth as other operators are in the Douro. That’s capturing the imagination and we’re adding an extra ship there.

There’s definitely more scope for growth on the key big waterways of the Rhine and the Danube as well.

The three absolute core fundamentals always will be that we try and hold ourselves to account for, we have the happiness guarantee, the quality promise that underpin the exceptional holiday experience and then the price promise that underpin affordable
