Russborough House, located in Blessington, has received over €160,000 from the Historic Structures Fund for restoration efforts.
Built between 1741 and 1748, it is recognised as one of the finest Palladian houses in Ireland, designed by Richard Castle.
The funding aims to restore 61 decorative limestone urns on the roof and facades, important to the house’s architectural character.
The house has a history of ownership, including Captain Denis Daly and Sir Alfred Beit, with management currently under the Alfred Beit Foundation.
This initiative is part of a broader programme, with more than €3.5 million allocated to 28 projects across Ireland to enhance heritage buildings and support local economies.
Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity Minister Christopher O’Sullivan, shared: “I am delighted to announce this award of significant funding for the repair and improvement of some of our most cherished heritage buildings. The works funded will secure the integrity of these sites for the enjoyment of future generations, and enhance the sustainability of local economies with great benefits for employment and the environment.”
