Ryanair is challenging plans to construct a €200m underground cargo tunnel at Dublin Airport citing concerns about bats, waterways, and significant carbon emissions.

The airline argues that the project contradicts the Dublin Airport Local Area Plan by leading to the loss of two aircraft stands.

Ryanair has identified significant CO2 emissions during construction and operation of the tunnel, and alleges that An Bord Pleanála did not adequately consider the Climate Action Plan or emissions caps.

The airline also claims that the project’s impact on protected bats and waterways was not properly assessed, and is seeking protection from having to pay opponents’ legal costs due to its environmental claims.
