Ryanair will station two Boeing 737s at Trapani Airport starting January 2026, marking its third Sicilian base and 20th in Italy.

The base supports 23 routes, including new connections to Bari, Bournemouth, Saarbrücken, Verona, and Stockholm. This follows Sicily’s abolition of municipal tax on small airports, prompting Ryanair to seek extension to all Sicilian facilities.

Ryanair holds 85.1pc of Trapani’s weekly passenger capacity, linking to 18 European airports currently. Chief executive Eddie Wilson indicated readiness to base 40 more aircraft in Italy if central government removes municipal taxes nationwide.

Eddie Wilson shared “the opening of the new base comes as a result of Sicily’s decision to scrap the municipal tax on small airports, and he called for the island’s government to extend this measure to all airports.”

“Ryanair would be ready to station 40 additional aircraft in Italy should the central government decide to abolish municipal tax on all airports in the country.”
