Ryanair’s challenge to a warrant used by competition authorities to search its Dublin premises will be heard in the High Court in October.
The challenge alleges the search warrant is invalid and will proceed to trial, lasting for three to four days, despite one issue being resolved between Ryanair and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).
Ryanair will seek to cross-examine a witness and the CCPC is concerned about potential delays in the case, emphasising the urgency in resolving competition investigations quickly.
The case concerns a raid on Ryanair’s offices near Dublin Airport following complaints from Italian travel associations, with the Italian competition authority alleging abuse of a dominant position and jeopardising effective competition in tourism services. Ryanair denies these claims and alleges that the search warrant was invalidated by the failure to inform the issuing judge about key Italian rulings.
