EU figures show that nights spent in self catering accommodations booked through online platforms continued to exceed previous years’ values in the fourth quarter of 2023, showing a trend of recovery from the pandemic.

The total number of guest nights spent in short-stay accommodations booked through online platforms in 2023 was 678.6m, reflecting a 13.8pc increase from 2022 and marking the third consecutive year of double-digit growth following the pandemic-related contraction in 2020.

In 2022, self catering tourism had already recovered to pre-pandemic levels, with August being the first month to surpass 100m guest nights, accounting for a record amount of guest nights each month in the fourth quarter of 2023.
