Dublin City Council has approved just 2,100 hotel rooms for planning permission since January 2023, representing a decline of more than 30pc in the hotel pipeline.
According to a previous study by Mitchell McDermott, 2,600 new hotel rooms were added in the Dublin region during 2023.
Dublin needs 3,500 hotel rooms to meet current demand. Mitchell McDermott expressed concern about a potential slowdown in planning permission in the years to come due to restrictive planning. Currently there are 24,000 hotel rooms in Dublin.
