Silversea Cruises is celebrating the successful float out of its new ship, Silver Ray, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany after a weather-delay on Saturday.
The float out of Silver Ray occurred at 11:30 am on a Sunday, involving flooding the ship’s construction dry dock with water to facilitate its movement to a wet dock for final outfitting and finish.
Silver Ray is part of the Nova class, making it one of the largest and most luxurious ships in the Silversea fleet, along with its sister ship, Silver Nova.
Scheduled for service this summer, Silver Ray will cruise in Europe during her inaugural season, offering itineraries to destinations like Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Valencia in Spain, Monaco, Livorno (Florence/Pisa) in Italy, and St. Tropez in France.
The Nova class ships, including Silver Ray, represent a new design approach for Silversea, featuring horizontally-designed vessels that offer staterooms and public spaces extending across entire decks rather than being split between fore and aft.
Nova class ships including Silver Ray provide all-suite accommodations, with 364 staterooms available in 13 categories, including premium aft suites – a first for Silversea, offering suites ranging from 33 sqm (357 sq. ft.) to 123 sqm (1,324 sq. ft.), each with redesigned bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, and spacious balconies with ocean and land views.
