Sligo Destination and Experience Development Plan (DEDP) five year plan, launched yesterday, will feature investment in existing projects such as the National Surf Centre in Strandhill, National Mountain Bike Centre in Coolaney, and new water-based activities facilities in Enniscrone and Rosses Point.
The plan aims to position Sligo as the outdoor activity and adventure capital of the Wild Atlantic Way and drive sustainable tourism in Co. Sligo by dispersing tourists across the destination and providing employment opportunities.
Key stakeholders in the area, including Sligo County Council, Destination Sligo Forum, tourism businesses, and community groups, were consulted in the development of the plan, which provides a clear vision for improved development and promotion of Sligo’s unique features.
Co-Chair Gerard Moore of the Sligo Park Hotel said: “the plan sets out the actions, priorities and future investment for the area and is designed to not only enhance the visitor’s experience but also for the benefit of the local communities who live and work here. As Co-Chair of a passionate and ambitious industry-led stakeholder group, we are committed to the successful completion of this plan that aims to sustainably grow the year-round economic value of tourism activity in Sligo as a destination.”
