Southwest Airlines anticipates that delays in Boeing’s aircraft deliveries could extend into 2025, resulting in a lower than expected number of new aircraft for the airline, according to CEO Bob Jordan.

The airline has revised its delivery forecast from 86 anticipated aircraft to 73 for 2025, including variations of the B737 MAX, due to ongoing certification issues with the -7 variant and production challenges following a recent machinist strike.

In light of these delays and a need to manage overstaffing, Southwest has offered voluntary redundancies to ground staff and implemented hiring reductions amid lower capacity projections.

The airline’s situation reflects broader challenges within the aviation industry, as it continues to monitor delivery timelines and adjust operational expectations in response to Boeing’s production issues.
