Spain is to reintroduce mandatory face mask wearing in hospitals and phramracies due to a spike in flu and COVID cases.

The mandate will came into force Wednesday 10 January 2024.

The measure aims to protect healthcare professionals and is supported by Spain’s Minister of Health, Monica Garcia.

Some regional health authorities oppose the nationwide mandate.

Several regions in Spain have already introduced regional mask-wearing mandates.

The central government can intervene in healthcare matters if deemed necessary, despite regional governments having jurisdiction over healthcare in Spain.
