Spanish high-speed rail faces over 80 speed restrictions following Adamuz tragedy

Spain’s high-speed rail network is grappling with more than 80 static speed limitations implemented since the tragic accident in Adamuz, Córdoba, earlier this month. These measures, aimed at enhancing safety, have significantly impacted travel times and efficiency on key routes. The conventional rail network fares even worse, with over 900 such restrictions in place, raising concerns among commuters and the tourism sector about delayed journeys and reduced connectivity during peak seasons.

Industry experts warn that these limitations could deter international tourists relying on efficient rail travel to explore regions like Andalucía and Madrid. As Spain’s tourism rebounds, calls are growing for infrastructure upgrades to restore pre-incident speeds without compromising safety.
