Stena Line has agreed to acquire 49pc of the shares in the Morocco-based ferry company Africa Morocco Link (AML), expanding its operations outside of Europe.

AML, headquartered in Tangier, currently operates a ferry route between Tanger Med – Algeciras and will launch a new high-speed route between Tangier Ville and Tarifa, catering to freight and travel customers as well as passengers and cars.

Stena Line’s CEO, Niclas Mårtensson,said “These routes, their ports, and the surrounding industries are under development and expected to drive a healthy freight market growth in the coming ten years. It’s a very exciting area to be able to operate in.”

The agreement is subject to approval by the Moroccan authorities.
