Stephen’s Green bandstand reopens to public

The historic bandstand in Dublin’s St Stephen’s Green has reopened to the public after being closed for two years due to structural and drainage issues that posed safety concerns.

The bandstand, built in 1887, is a protected structure and underwent restoration works on its pillars, costing nearly €400,000.

The reopening ceremony featured a performance by the Newbridge Gospel Choir.

The bandstand had to be cordoned off in September 2021 due to damage caused by crowds using it for outdoor socializing during the pandemic.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) stated that the structure was not designed to hold large crowds and cannot withstand the “imposed and dynamic loading.”
