Michael O’Leary wrote to the transport minister Eamon Ryan on May 13, expressing gratitude for assistance in securing extra slots at Dublin Airport for Ryanair.
Ryanair had initially requested additional slots for Europa League Final flights, but was informed by DAA it was not possible due to the 32m passenger cap at the airport. More than 30,000 extra passengers from Bergamo, Dortmund and other European cities came to Dublin for the final.
Mr O’Leary urged the minister to intervene and issue directions to DAA to approve the extra flight slots, highlighting how the cap was negatively impacting events and Ireland’s reputation
The Green Party leader responded to O’Leary’s request by confirming that the additional slots had been allocated, prompting O’Leary to thank the minister and call for the scrapping of the traffic cap to avoid future issues in a handwritten note.
