Tim Clark of Emirates has reiterated his claims that US carriers undermined the A380 to weaken Emirates’ advantage.

Speaking at an aviation event Mr Clark, who is a part time resident fo Lismore in Waterford,, alleged a Star Alliance mandate against A380 purchases 10 years ago contributed to production of the aircraft ending in 2021.

Emirates operates 118 A380s, planning to use them until the 2030s, unlike Singapore Airlines and British Airways with 12 each.

Clark questioned US carrier profitability on routes like Los Angeles to Tokyo with smaller aircraft. The strategy reflects industry shifts toward fuel-efficient planes.

Tim Clark shared “The American carriers weren’t having anything to do with it anyway. Who could say to me, you could fly from Los Angeles to Tokyo with the A380, whether United, American, or Delta, and not make money?”
