Marella Cruises, in partnership with Apollo Group, is launching a trial for reusable coffee cups on the Marella Explorer to aid TUI’s commitment to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

The three-month trial will commence in April 2025, with 2,500 reusable cups and lids available at The Coffee Port, the ship’s coffee shop.

Weekly, the Marella Explorer serves around 3,500 takeaway coffees, making the introduction of reusable cups a significant step toward reducing single-use plastic items.

Olivia Wells, Marella Cruises’ sustainability manager, expressed the importance of this initiative in supporting sustainability efforts onboard.

TUI Group, a member of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative advisory committee, aims to combat plastic pollution by addressing its root causes.

Olivia Wells shared “This move is important for Marella Cruises as the cruise line continues to support TUI’s commitment to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative. The reusable coffee cups trial is just some of the small steps we are taking to support the reduction of plastic waste on our ships,”
