
Voepass Linhas Aereas announced that an ATR 72-500 turbo prop operating flight 2Z2283 from Cascavel to Sao Paulo crashed in Vinhedo, approximately 80km northwest of Sao Paulo. The aircraft with registration PS-VPB was transporting 58 passengers and four crew members.
The aircraft, flying at an altitude of 17,000 ft (5,200 m), lost control and entered a rapid descent around 13:22 local time, resulting in the death of all passengers on board.
The plane was en route from Cascavel in Paraná State to São Paulo when it crashed in Vinhedo, São Paulo State after losing contact around 13:30 local time. Initial reports indicated a descent rate of 13,000 feet per minute for the aircraft.
The crash occurred near a condominium in the Capela neighborhood, a residential area, with no injuries reported on the ground despite the plane striking several houses upon impact.
GloboNews, a Brazilian television news channel, aired footage showing the plane spiraling downward in a vertical position before the crash, followed by scenes of widespread fire and smoke emanating from the aircraft fuselage at the crash site.
PS-VPB was originally delivered to Belle Air in 2010 and is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127M engines,
It is jointly owned by Airbus and Italian aerospace group Leonardo. Voepass has a fleet of eleven aircraft.
Voepass was formerly known as Passaredo before it rebranded in 2019.
Sao Paulo’s state fire brigade deployed seven crews to the accident scene.
