What counties have never won a national tidy towns award? the results will surprise you.

By winning the 2023 award, Abbeyleix from Laois became the second town form the county to win a national tidy towns award, announced at a ceremony in Croke Park. It was previously won by Castletown in 2002.

Of the 26 counties eligible to enter the tidy towns competition, six have yet to win a national award with some surprises amongst the list: Galway, Kildare, Leitrim, Offaly, Sligo, Wexford.

The counties and their winners have been (with one award shared):

  • 8 – Donegal 8
  • 7 – Meath 7
  • 6 each Cavan & Tipperary
  • 5 – Longford 
  • 4 each Carlow &  Kerry 4
  • 3 each Clare, Cork & Mayo
  • 2 each – Dublin, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Louth, Monaghan, Roscommon, Waterford, Westmeath & Wicklow.
