By winning the 2023 award, Abbeyleix from Laois became the second town form the county to win a national tidy towns award, announced at a ceremony in Croke Park. It was previously won by Castletown in 2002.
Of the 26 counties eligible to enter the tidy towns competition, six have yet to win a national award with some surprises amongst the list: Galway, Kildare, Leitrim, Offaly, Sligo, Wexford.

- 7 – Meath 7
- 6 each Cavan & Tipperary
- 5 – Longford
- 4 each Carlow & Kerry 4
- 3 each Clare, Cork & Mayo
- 2 each – Dublin, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Louth, Monaghan, Roscommon, Waterford, Westmeath & Wicklow.
