The European Capital and City of Christmas 2024 competition’s International Jury has chosen Waterford City as the European City of Christmas for 2024.

Waterford City and County Council’s submission impressed the judging panel, highlighting the city’s commitment to European values of Christmas, solidarity, and heritage.

Winterval, Ireland’s largest Christmas festival, will serve as the basis for Waterford’s festivities as the European City of Christmas 2024.

The festival, created in 2012, has grown to become a beloved event, attracting an average of 500,000 visitors each year. In 2024, Winterval expects over 700,000 visitors, focusing on family, togetherness, arts, culture, food, and entertainment.
