Nine hundred hotels and guesthouses in Ireland can pursue legal damages against Booking.com for alleged inflated commission rates.
The European Court of Justice ruled that Booking.com’s parity clauses from 2006 to 2024 breached EU competition regulations, limiting hotels’ pricing options.
Affected hotels may recover commissions paid to Booking.com from 2004 to 2024 along with interest, potentially amounting toms of euro.
The Irish Hotels Federation is collaborating with 25 hotel associations across Europe to support this collective action against Booking.com.
Paul Gallagher shared “The platform’s parity clauses have been a major issue for Irish hotels going back 20 years, resulting in significant financial harm due to the inflated levels of commissions charged. We see this as an important opportunity to send a strong message to online booking platforms that unfair business practices will not go unchallenged.”
